Love for Los Angeles

11.03.17

Yesterday I did something fun on my own…and it was lovely.

I took the Metro after work (I’m lucky in that I work right next to a station on the Expo Line) to downtown LA and met up with an old high school friend. It was really refreshing to do something fun on my own which I realized I hadn’t done in a while.  I put in my headphones and played some of my favorite songs (obsessed with the Sense8 playlist right now and in particular the throwback 4 Non Blondes song they use a lot in the show…anyone else watch? And if yes, do you have a major crush on Wolfie like I do?). I people watched on the Metro platform as I waited for my train and wondered what everyone’s story was. It was very grounding to try to see past everyone’s physical forms and remember that we are all deeply connected on the most basic level.

As I sat on the Metro, with all my fellow Angelenos from all different cultures and backgrounds,  and as I looked through the train window, seeing LA pass me by, I really felt an pang of love for this place called LA. I love how diverse it is.  I love seeing the magic of pink and gold cotton candy skies dotted with rows of palm trees during sunset. I love LA’s grit. This a city where not everything is picture perfect by any means, and I often think of moving out of LA, but some moments, when you piece it all together and you step back and look, you realize it paints just a lovely, lovely picture of life at its most real moments and it’s beautiful. At least that’s how I felt last night riding the Metro.

My friend and I ate at Grand Central Market in downtown and got Sticky Rice, the Thai vendor and a few drinks from Golden Road Brewery. I highly recommend the Yellow Curry at Sticky Rice. So good. Must go back for more.

And so after dinner and a few drinks and some solid conversation with an old friend,  the night was getting late so I made my way back onto the Metro and felt happy and content all the way home.

Happy Friday, everyone!  I hope everyone out there is off on fun weekend adventures and remember to take a moment now and again to truly see the beauty in your city and the people in it. It makes all the difference!
